This is the final lei design in this collection. When I approached Emily about this final lei design, I wanted something that would capture the feeling of what unites us as a people of Hawaii.
I wanted it to be colorful...To me, color always brings that feeling of happiness, soemthing we all need during this tough year of 2020. What started off as colors representing the islands (yes I know, not really "Hawaiian" but something that many of us grow up learning in school here for May Day) bloomed into this beautiful rainbow of colors.
Mahalo once again to Emily from Kaʻulumaika who has continued to bring my vision to life.
Hidden in this design is an ʻōlelo noʻeau (Hawaiian proverb), by Mary Kawena Pukui, that I kept coming across as Emily and I spoke about adding one.
"Ua ao Hawaii ke olino nei malamalama."
Hawaii is enlightened, for the brightness of day is here.
ʻŌlelo Noʻeau #2773
It comes in the Baby Size (30" x 40") and Keiki Size (50" x 60")
The blanket is printed using ecologically-safe transfer sublimation inks that provide vibrant color durability.
Designed in Hawaii by Hawaiians.
