NOEAU - Kalākaua Polos
Description
NOEAU - Kalākaua Polos
"King Kalākaua was named the Merrie Monarch due to both his lively personality and passion for Native Hawaiian culture - specifically the arts. Knowing the importance of hula to the preservation of Hawaiian history and culture, he advocated for the continued practice of the dance.
This print integrates a variety of hula implements to honor how King Kalākaua brought back this tradition. If you look closely you'll see ipu heke, pūʻili sticks, ʻulīʻulī, and pahu drums! The paths of each pattern also represent how he would travel around the world to perpetuate Hawaiian culture.
