KAPA HAWAII - Inamotea Kapa Clutch
Description
Kapa Stories
#5 Inamotea
"There are many stories of Hina, in Hawaii she is a kapa goddess, throughout the Pacific. The one that inspired this work says, "The Hervey Island traditions say that the Moon (Marama) had often seen Hina and admired her, and at last had come down and caught her up to live with himself. The moonlight in its glory is called Inamotea, "The brightness of Ina." As a lifelong artist I favored illustration and painting. Becoming a kapa maker forced me to work with abstract geometrics, which has always been challenging."
